Each speaker is a separate channel sent straight to your sound card, in the standard order shown above (LFE is the subwoofer). The browser can only send as many channels as your computer's sound output is set to, which is what "outputs offered" counts; change that setting and reload the page. Going round on speakers moves the sound between neighbouring speakers at equal power. On headphones it uses your browser's head-related transfer function (HRTF), which filters the sound the way the shape of a head and ears does, so front and behind can be told apart. With two speakers the sound can only move left and right. The subwoofer plays a 50 Hz tone and is left out of the circling sound.
